At first glance Hancock (Will Smith) is nothing but a drunkard bum with no purpose in life, but what he has are super powers which he uses to save people's lives, but in a most undesirable way where he brings about his being a bum to being a "superhero". One day Hancock saves a PR executive named Rey from a train accident. Rey then gets an ingenious idea to reinvent Hancock's image so that people would love him. But something weird transpires when Hancock meets Rey's family and he discovers more than what he bargained for.

The movie is set in London where the troupe of Dr. Parnassus takes its audience into the imaginarium to experience their dreams come true. Dr. Parnassus claims to have already lived for more that 100 years but when he got involved with a mortal he had to make a deal with the devil wherein he had to give his first born upon tuning sixteen years old. Dr. Panassus had a daughter Valentina and her time is almost up, so he made re-dealt with the devil saying that if someone can seduce five souls in the imaginarium then he can have Valentina as the prize. Can Dr. Parnassus plan work and will Valentina be spared?

The movie is set in Spain, year 1944 (World War II) wherein civil war has broken out. A little girl named Ofelia and her sickly mother are on their way to Capitan Vidal's forest headquarters to live with him because the mother is bearing his child. Capitan Vidal is a very sadistic and horrible person who Ofelia and other people fear and despise. Ofelia then encounters fairies and a faun in the forest who reveal that Ofelia is really a princess of another world not born of a human. She is fascinated with the idea that there is another world, a better place, than where she is now. But before Ofelia can become the princess that she is, she must pass a few gruesome tests to prove her loyalty and avoid being caught by the tyrant Capitan Vidal.
